The history of Kopp Schleiftechnik
For over 50 years, KOPP Schleiftechnik has been your reliable partner when it comes to high-quality cutting tools for milling and drilling metals and plastics. With a strong team, state-of-the-art grinding technology and a clear commitment to quality and innovation, we set standards in the industry.
As a family business, our roots reach deep into the past, but our focus is always on the future. With over five decades of experience and expertise, we have continued to develop. Today, we work with more than 40 employees on 1500 m² of production space to provide our customers worldwide with the best tool solutions.
On October 1, 1970, Helmut Kopp registered his tool grinding business with the trade office in Lindenfels. From this point onwards, tools were reground in a small, former agricultural building right next to the family home. Initially after work, as Helmut Kopp was employed full-time as a foreman at the Thermo-Plastik company in Bensheim.
The company grows, new customers are added and the small workshop next to the house is bursting at the seams. A new workshop is built with 100 m² of production space and 50 m² for offices and staff rooms.
The next generation is waiting in the wings: Achim Kopp joins the company in 1982, followed by Heike Kopp in 1987 and Jürgen Kopp in 1989.
Until now, the company has only provided regrinding services, but thanks to the new CNC technology, it is now also possible to manufacture completely new tools. This represents a decisive step into the future.
Our company is 25 years old and we celebrate a big party. In the same year, Helmut Kopp GmbH becomes Kopp-Schleiftechnik GmbH and Achim Kopp becomes the second managing director alongside senior partner Helmut Kopp.
The company continues to grow rapidly. With 600 m2 of new space, the previous production area is doubled. The inauguration is celebrated with a church service in the new hall and a big party.
Fabian Kopp (son of Achim and Heike Kopp) joins the company in 2009, followed by Tobias Kopp (son of Jürgen Kopp) in 2014 and Luisa Helm (daughter of Achim and Heike Kopp) in 2016.
Probably the most important milestone in the company’s history is the construction of our new company building. February: kick-off event in the new building, March: after a big church service we start the move, October: big inauguration party.
